Q: What inspired you to start Retaining Wall & Paving Solutions?
Josh: I realized that the only way I could provide a level of customer service, workmanship, communication, and quality of installation that lived up to my expectations was to start my own business.
Q: What has been your most memorable construction project/job of your career?
Josh: I think the most memorable job I was ever a part of was when I was a superintendent for the largest concrete company in Missouri. That job was a million square feet of concrete. The sheer amount of concrete that was poured during that job was astronomical!
Q: Do you have any funny anecdotes or stories over your career?
Josh: When you’re in construction, you have lots of funny stories. I have many, but I’ll keep it at a PG rating. I guess the funniest thing was taking a guy's order for lunch and then totally disregarding his order and getting him a kid's meal; it was one of those things that never got old.
Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of your work and why?
Josh: Lots of things are rewarding. But, by far, the most rewarding aspect is turning a homeowner's vision into reality and seeing the amazement on their face. It’s the best feeling to knowing you turned someone’s dream or vision into reality.
Q: What trends are you seeing in the hardscaping industry?
Josh: We are seeing many people realize that pavers are much better in many ways than poured-in-place concrete. Permeable pavers are also coming on strong.
We are also seeing a big increase in the amount of artificial turf we install. It’s not only beautiful but it’s literally maintenance-free.
Q: Favorite Food?
Josh: Anything BBQ but tacos for sure, who doesn’t like tacos?
Q: Favorite Band/Song?
Josh: Not sure I have a favorite. I like all sorts of music.
Q: Favorite Movie?
Josh: Tough, but I’ll say The Town.
Q: What are you watching now?
Josh: Yellowstone. I know I’m behind!
Q: Favorite Hobby?
Josh: Have many but my favorite is fishing.
Q: What is one thing people don't know about you?
Josh: I hate when someone is late.
Q: If you were stuck on a desert island and could only bring one thing with you, what would it be?
Josh: Is there any water that’s drinkable? Lol, if not I’ll bring water.
Q: If you had the chance to have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?
Josh: My daughter. Why? Because kids grow up fast and she is the most important person in my life. Family is most important to me.
